Steve Jarding, Lecturer in Public Policy, has spent 29 years in American politics earning a reputation as one of the foremost experts in campaign management by being a hands-on tactician who wins races his candidates are not supposed to win. He was Senior Advisor to Jim Webb in his upset victory over Sen. George Allen in Virginia (2006); Executive Director of the South Dakota Democratic Party (running the state-coordinated campaign during Tom Daschles first successful bid for U.S. Senate); Communications Director in Bob Kerreys two U.S. Senate campaigns in Nebraska; Communications Director and Senior Advisor to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (1995-1997); and Deputy Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD). He managed Mark Warners successful bid for governor of Virginia and has run national leadership PACs for Senators Bob Kerrey in 1999 and John Edwards in 2002. In 1996, Roll Call magazine named Jarding one of the 50 most influential political people in Washington, DC. In 2004, he was a Fellow at the Institute of Politics. He holds a BS degree from the University of South Dakota and an MA degree from the University of Oklahoma where he was a Fellow at the Carl Albert Congressional Studies Center.
